
On Friday evening the 10th of October SVITZER Salvage Australasia was contracted to assist the car-carrier COSMOS ACE which experienced ME bearing problems 25 NM from Fraser Island - drifting in southerly direction. SVITZER Salvage responded immediately by mobilizing the tug WISTARI from Gladstone which arrived on Sunday early morning.
During her voyage the tug experienced strong winds and swell, however was able to maintain a strong pace. The COSMOS ACE was thereafter taken into tow to Brisbane; they arrived on Monday morning at the Point Cartwright pilot boarding ground. At arrival of the pilot station the SVITZER tug WILGA connected to the aft of the COSMOS ace to act as a steering tug. Before crossing the Brisbane River a 3rd SVITZER tug joined the operation called the SVITZER COLMSLIE. After crossing Moreton bay the COSMOS ACE arrived safely at the repair yard.
