Strathclyde Police have confirmed today (Sunday, December 23) they have recovered the body of our colleague and friend Stephen Humphreys, master of The Flying Phantom, which sunk last week in the River Clyde.
“On behalf of everyone at Svitzer around the world, I wish to pass on our deepest sympathies and condolences to Stephen’s family and friends,” said Svitzer UK managing director James Curry.
“This now means all three missing crew members of our tug have been recovered and I give my commitment to the families of Stephen, Eric and Bob that we will continue to do everything humanely possible to help them through their terrible ordeal.
“I also want to reiterate that we will continue to provide the necessary support and assistance to Brian Aitchison and his family as they seek to recover from this shocking tragedy.”
Mr Curry added: “Our investigation into the accident is ongoing and we are continuing to co-operate fully with the Marine Accident Investigation Branch of the Department of Transport.”
