A 45 ton bollardpull SvitzerWijsmuller tug last might arrived at the location of a 86 meter long product tanker just off the Mumbai High oilfield.
Early this morning the tug connected up to the casualty in less than favourable weather conditions. The 4.574 ton DWT vessel had drifted for some time already when SvitzerWijsmuller Salvage agreed a salvage contract and sent in the SVITZER MUHARRAQ from her station position in the Gulf of Oman last Monday June 26. Despite the heavy SW-monsoon conditions, the tug reached the casualty yesterday evening and was able to connect up this morning. The casualty itself had over the past days, since the departure of the SVITZER MUHARRAQ on Monday, drifted more then 150 miles to end up some 14 miles off an oil platform. As a contingency, SvitzerWijsmuller Salvage had seny in one of the smaller tugs from Mumbai to standby and interfere if the situation would have demanded same.
The convoy will head towards the Gulf of Oman to deliver the casualty back to her owners.
